The 11+ is an optional test sat at the beginning of year 6. It is the method for deciding whether a child is suitable for a Grammar school. In this area children can choose to sit the Kent test as well as the Shepway test for the Folkestone Grammar schools. Parents can register for these tests via the government website where there is information about when you can register, test dates and a familiarisation test.
It is advisable for your child to practise for these tests whether at home or with a tutor. I am happy to support this and help prepare your child for the test. However, it is important for you and your child to explore all opportunities available in order to make an informed decision as to which is the right school for your child’s secondary education.
If a child needs excessive support to pass the test they will need continued support throughout, otherwise they may lose confidence and drop behind. If they are reluctant to do the work at this stage they will struggle with homework levels and expectations at Grammar school.
